Movie review: Hasee Toh Phasee is entertaining and refreshing

Debutant Vinil Mathew's Hasee Toh Phasee hits theaters today. With Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap backing the movie, expectations were high. Thankfully, the film lives up to its promise. Hasee Toh Phasee is a fresh and smart romantic story that defies stereotypes at several points.

Nikhil (Sidharth Malhotra) is an optimist, who believes once committed, there's no straying. Meeta (Parineeeti Chopra) is a non-conformist; she's a go-getter in her personal and professional space. Naturally Nikhil and Meeta's ideologies don't match. But there's an under-current in their equation that keeps the audience hoping they that they will seek each other out.

The well-written film is breezy, funny, witty, a fast-paced story, packed with crackling dialogue. Parineeti Chopra's performance is the best of the lot. She sparkles and dazzles with natural ease and makes you feel for her when she pops all those anti-depressant drugs. After his first film Student of The Year, Siddharth Malhotra, climbs up several notches, proving that he is more than just a pretty boy.

True to the norms of Bollywood love triangles, Hasee Toh Phasee has more than its share of departures and homecomings, of abrupt partings and dramatic reunions. So what if some of them appear to be merrily arbitrary?

If you do not let the occasional lapses in logic get in the way, you might actually find yourself enjoying the film. Do check it out
